“The hour before I play is a mix of calm and anticipation. You start to join the dots and imagine where the set could go. I like to have a bit of quiet beforehand, fewer conversations, trying to be observant. At some point everything just clicks into place and the distractions disappear. My approach is something like meditation, in that I know to tune in and focus on the music, and let it guide you.”

This edition saw us talking to Scorpios Music Director Lannka, a performer, producer and cultural curator who has shaped the sound of our dancefloors and dreams for the last decade. His metamorphic new single ‘Searchin For Someone’ is out now on Scorpios Music.

“Nerves can be useful, just to keep you sharp and present. You can’t let them take over but they should remind you that the moment matters and to be present. I don’t really feel anxiety, it’s more like a subtle adrenaline. Once the first track plays and I feel the crowd’s energy it naturally turns into focus and excitement.”
Savour The Experience
“Hedonism doesn’t drive my life but I do value enjoying the moment and savouring experiences. For me that’s less about excess and more about fully immersing myself in what feels good, which could be conversations with people or the music itself. Pleasure is an important part of life, but it’s important to find a balance.”
The Real Magic Is Connection
“A good performance isn’t about just playing the right tracks, it’s more about creating a moment people didn’t realise they needed. Energy matters, as does emotion, but the real magic is about connection. Reading the room, knowing when to build that tension and release it at the right time.
Sometimes it's intense, sometimes it’s subtle, but you know when you get it right.
I like to be at the venue a few hours before the set to really observe what the energy is like, and how the crowd clicks with the music. By the time I step into the booth I already understand the vibe, and that’s really important to me.”
